SPECTRUM SEMINAR _ DEPARTMENT OF ENGLISH
The PG Department of English at Sree Narayana College, Chempazhanthy, organized the R. Sankar Memorial Spectrum Seminar Series for the academic year 2024-25. As part of this initiative, a seminar on "The Scope of New Media Journalism" was conducted on February 21, 2025, at 11:00 AM in the Seminar Hall of the college. The event featured Dr. S.R. Sanjeev, Assistant Professor, Department of Journalism and Mass Communication, Mar Ivanios College (Autonomous), Thiruvananthapuram, as the resource person.
The seminar commenced with a welcome address by Ms. Hima S S, Assistant Professor, Department of English, and Coordinator of the Spectrum Seminar Series. The presidential address was delivered by Prof. (Dr.) Raakhee A.S., Principal of Sree Narayana College, Chempazhanthy. The invited talk on "The Scope of New Media Journalism" was then presented by Dr. S.R. Sanjeev. The session concluded with a vote of thanks by Prof. (Dr.) Manu Remakant, Head, Department of English, SN College, Chempazhanthy.
Dr. S.R. Sanjeev, a seasoned media professional with 15 years of experience in television journalism at Asianet News and Manorama News, provided deep insights into the evolving landscape of new media journalism. A British Chevening Scholar (2005), Dr. Sanjeev was trained in broadcast journalism at the Thomson Foundation, UK. His expertise spans political, economic, and social reporting, along with research in digital media, visual communication, and social change.
During the seminar, Dr. Sanjeev elaborated on the impact of digital transformation in journalism, the challenges of misinformation, and the ethical responsibilities of media professionals. He also highlighted the role of new media platforms in shaping public opinion and fostering democratic discourse. His presentation was followed by an engaging interactive session where students and faculty members raised pertinent questions on the future of journalism in the digital era.
