Report on Spectrum 2025 – Sociology Seminar
The Department of Sociology, S.N. College, Chempazhanthy, organized Spectrum 2025, a one-day seminar, on 13th February 2025 in the college seminar hall. The event started at 10:30 AM and included an inaugural session, an invited talk, student paper presentations, and discussions on key social issues.
Inaugural Session
The programme began with a welcome address by Dr. Lekha N. B., Convenor of the seminar, who stressed the need for students to develop critical thinking and sociological imagination. She also pointed out the relevance of the seminar’s theme in understanding today’s social problems.
Dr. Rakhee A. S., Principal of the college, delivered the presidential address. She praised the department for organizing such an enriching programme and encouraged students to take part in meaningful academic discussions.
Invited Talk
The invited talk was delivered by Sri Sunil Kumar N. K., Assistant Professor of Sociology, M.G. College, Thiruvananthapuram, on the topic “Art and Everyday: A Sociological Perspective on Creativity.” He explained how creativity is part of daily life and its connection with society and culture. He also discussed how art influences social change and how social structures shape artistic expression. The session inspired lively discussions among the participants.
Felicitation
Abhaya, Guest Faculty, Department of Sociology, delivered the felicitation address, appreciating the students and teachers for making the seminar engaging and meaningful.
Student Paper Presentations
The main part of the seminar was the student paper presentations, where nine groups presented their work on different sociological themes. Each presentation was followed by discussions. The topics included:

The seminar ended with a vote of thanks by Dr. Kavitha V., Faculty Member, Department of Sociology, who thanked the speakers, participants, and organizers for their efforts.
Conclusion
Spectrum 2025 was a thought-provoking and successful academic event. It gave students a platform to share their research, encouraged critical discussions on important social issues, and reflected the Department of Sociology’s commitment to academic excellence.
