General Library Spectrum Seminar – 2024-2025

 As part of the R. Sankar Memorial Spectrum Seminar Series 2024-2025, the General Library organized a seminar on January 28, 2025, commencing at 10:00 AM with a prayer.

The event began with a welcome address by Dr. Jinu S. Rajan, UGC Librarian, followed by the presidential address delivered by the esteemed Principal, Prof. Dr. Raakhee A. S.. The keynote address was presented by Prof. Dr. A. Gopikuttan, Retired Professor & Head, Department of Library & Information Science, University of Kerala, on the topic "IPR and Libraries."

The resource person introduced the concept of Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) and elaborated on its key components, including patents, trademarks, geographical indications, industrial designs, and copyrights. He provided in-depth explanations with relevant examples, with a special emphasis on copyright laws.

The session covered crucial aspects such as:

  • Copyright law, its amendments, and various clauses for different types of materials.
  • Concepts like copyright infringement, fair use, and the legal consequences of violations.

Prize Distribution Ceremony

Following the keynote address, Prof. Dr. A. Gopikuttan distributed prizes to the winners of various competitions conducted by the General Library in connection with Reading Week, Library Week, and the Best Reader Awards.
